September 17 thru De -

cember 31. A week by week condensed form of news as reported in the Leader during 2020.

September 17 Issue

Weather in the 70’s for six days; low was 17°. Taylor Leischner and Jayce Tande are Homecoming queen/king. School receives check for $2,802.40 from proceeds of Independence Bank Spartan Spirit debit cards. Phase 1 of water main replacements substantially complete.

Fladager’s 80 foot silo near Peerless removed. Al Eckart brings in a 7 lb. 15 inch long zucchini. Gary Tryan, 81, retired in Polson, died Sept. 1. Nemont and Scobey Boosters hold appreciation barbecue for Scobey School staff, coaches and families. SHS football team defeats Broadus 60-6. SHS hosts cross county meet.

SHS volleyball girls lose three. Centennial notes reported; tentative celebration is now July 2-4, 2021. Saylor Lynnae born Sept. 11 to Kenneth and Tiffani (Trangsrud) Jasper of Culbertson. Gravel speed bumps installed on dump ground road (C St) in Scobey.

September 24 Issue

Weather showed high of 78, low 27 and .03 precip. September annual Bullying/ Suicide Run Walk is held with 50 participants. Bank re-opens lobby after COVID closure. Richardson Theatre plans to reopen October 2nd after closing March 16 due to COVID. $400 donation from Catholic rummage sale to Cemetery Board kick starts a project to get markers for unmarked graves and update some Veterans’ grave markers.

Two fire calls in two days; a ditch fire and at Nemont where circulating fan motors quit and caused smoke. Fishell cousins are photographed. Logo on Dry Prairie Water Tower is painted. Steve Carney’s letter to editor concerns cease in lieu payments for state land.

October 1 Issue

High temp recorded was 84, low 29. New Eagle Scout project of courtyard at hospital nears completion. Flaxville applies for grants for water main replacements. Gordon Hillstrom, (SHS ’57), 81, died September 18 in Modesto, CA. Bob Sivertsen of Havre addresses Empire Builder’s future in Letter to Editor.

DC Fire dept. responds to two fire calls within 4 hours; Peerless stubble field fire and combine fire north of Scobey. Senior Spotlight shines on Jayce Tande. SHS football team defeats Fairview 36-6. Volleyball team loses to Fairview, Culbertson and Plentywood. Cross Country has meet in Culbertson; Mya Green takes first in middle school class. Leader poor delivery out of town is told.
