Scobey Runners Head For State Meet In Missoula

 

A small portion of the Scobey High School student body will make a run west to Missoula this week for the 58th annual Montana High School Association State Cross Country Championships.

Luckily the local harriers won’t have to actually physically run to get there considering it is a 546-mile one way trip — or 19.5 mararthons! — but once there they’ll do their very best to better last season’s performances.

The 2020 all-class state finals were held at Rebecca Farm in Kalispell where the Scobey girls placed seventh with 74 points, which was 45 points off the winning pace set by Manhattan Christian with 29.

Scobey’s Mia Handran, a freshman at the time, placed fourth in 23:33.81, which was 2 minutes and 43 seconds off the winning pace of Lindsey Paulson of Belt-Centerville in a field of 85.

Now as a sophomore Handran will be joined by freshman Mya Green, whose average finish in the 2021 regular season was third place.
