Taken from the unapproved minutes of the regular meeting of City Council, City of Scobey, Montana held Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. at City Hall.

REGULAR MEETING

Mayor Morgan Lekvold called the meeting to order with councilmen Seth Axtman, Scott Fishell, Paul Landeraaen and Jon Baker present. Also, in attendance wereSheriffDuaneAnderson (8:46), Brian French, Jim Tande, Jacki Thievin, Brad Lamb, Marla Gray (8:50), Neil Holum (8:52), Mikel Lund (8:53 a.m.), Fire Chief Wyatt Wilder, City Attorney Ben Fosland, PWD Steve Berreth and Clerk Sonya M. Southland.

Public Hearing – Water RateIncreaseMayorLekvold opened the public hearing at 8:32 a.m.

• Jacki Thievin and Brian French asked why is the increase being proposed – The City is passing on the increase implemented from DPRWA

• Jacki voiced concerns about the cost of watering lawns and if this increase will affect people watering their lawns.

• Jacki also asked if the increase is the same for commercial rates – yes.

• Jim Tande, DPRWA board member, stated it seems like Scobey just got hookeduptoDPRWAandhas already seen an increase but in actuality DPRWA hasn’t implemented an increase since 2012. Since 2012 the number of services have increased from 1,400 services to over 4000 services, water use has increased by 400 million gallons, the amount of pipeline has increased by over 500 miles, the total operating costs have increased by more than $800,000 and in addition to the operating costs the annual debt payments total $326,000.These were factors for the increased rate.
