It’s good to see these turtles survived the winter. Last Thursday it was a beautiful afternoon and eleven (a couple out of camera view) were seen basking in the sun on the bank of a pond just east of Scobey.

In winter, turtles sort of bury themselves in the pond’s mud bottom and as the water freezes and cools their body temperature, the turtle slows its metabolism as much as by 90%, needing less food and oxygen. They are adapted to take in oxygen through their skin, face and anal vent! If the oxy...
