Spartan Harriers Open In Wolf Point, Poplar Is Next Meet
The Scobey High School and Middle School cross country teams opened their season last week at the Wolf Point Invitational on Friday, August 26. Held on the soft-grass surface of the Airport Golf Course the Scobey girls placed second with 46 points, 17 points behind the winning Poplar Indians.
Plentywood senior Annie Kaul was the victor with Scobey sophomore Mya Green 56 seconds behind her in second. Mia Handran, a Spartan junior, placed fourth while freshman newcomer Oli Leininger placed 14th and Ivy Cole, another SHS frosh, 20th in a field of 54. For the Scobey boys, senior Masen Green placed seventh in a field of 48, just under three minutes off the winning pace of Wolf Point’s Peyton Summers.
In the middle school 1.5mile races, Scobey eighth grader Kayla Carney placed fourth, 29 seconds off the winning time of Glasgow’s Haleigh Huntsman. Scobey’s Halle Cromwell, a sixth grader, and Hazel Sones, a seventh grader, placed 12th and 14th, respectively.
In the boys’ middle school run, eighth grader Bryce Handran placed 13th was Scobey’s top harrier.
