Taxes Ten Years Ago Were Much Higher Than ‘48– County Levy was 39 mills in 1938, this year it is 19 mills.

If there should be any this year upon receiving their tax receipts complain that taxes are getting so much higher, their complaints will not be based upon fact.

In 1938, it should be remembered, there was a state property tax levy of 4.5 mills. For the past several years recently there has been none at all.

Taxpayers will find this hard to account for, in view of currently high tax bills - until they remember that the big chunk of taxes now is the federal income tax, which has steadily risen until this year when ...
