Simple Math States Scobey Girls Are In Running For State Trophy
Something very interesting has transpired in the 2023 Class C cross country scene after the Leader did some subtraction followed by some addition with much double-and-triple checking along the way.
By taking the 2022 final results of the Class C girls at the Montana High School Association (MHSA) All-Class State Meet in Missoula last October, eliminated were all the times and places of the seniors who have graduated. The remaining times and places of last season’s juniors, sophomores and freshmen were re-set with 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 et cetera and the top three individual places from each team were added together for a Class C team-score projection if it were the upcoming State C Meet.
The results were the Roberts Rockets soaring to the top spot with a projected 19 points (2nd-6th-11th) followed by the Scobey Spartans with 42 (3-5-34), the North Toole County Refiners based in Sunburst with 43 points (8-13-22), Culbertson Cowgirls 56 (10,15,31), Circle Wildcats 59 (16,20,23), Plentywood Wildcats 72 (19,24,29) and Chinook Sugarbeeters 86 (26,28,32).
Keep in mind this formula does not take into account any incoming hot-shot freshmen who can run like the wind, or any unknown transfer students, like an out-of-stater moving into Montana from Nebraska, or a girl(s) transferring from a Class AA school to a Class C school.
The latter was the case in a different MHSA sport last season when the Chirrick sisters of Billings West High School transferred from being Class AA Golden Bears to Class C Roberts Rockets as the basketball season was nearing, a move to the southwest of around 40 miles as the crow flies.
