Archery season opened this past Saturday for deer and elk. Elk numbers are low around here but Tate Bowler of Manhattan, MT, bagged this dandy muley deer from about 40 yards with his bow northwest of Scobey on Sunday. He and his dad Zach came over to avoid all the hunters going to the mountains for the season and work in a trip to visit family on the prairie. By comparison to rifle season, there aren't many archers out here this time of year but the fields are full of bird hunters.
