Spartan Basketball Teams Open At Coach Connors Classic Event
It is off to Cowtown where the Scobey High School girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams open their 2023-24 Montana High School Association seasons.
The Coach Connors Classic, named after the late Dan Connors, the longtime Miles Community College men’s basketball head coach, will have Miles City flooded with players, coaches and fans this weekend (December 1-2).
Ten teams from four Class C conferences will be featured and make for some interesting matchups not usually seen until state tournament time, if any of those squads make it that far.
The Friday, December 1, action begins in the Sacred Heart School gymnasium:
• Carter County (Ekalaka) Bulldogs of District 4C plays the Circle Wildcats of District 3C at 12:30 p.m. in varsity girls action followed by the same two schools in varsity boys at 2 p.m.
• Plentywood Wildcats (2C) meet the Melstone Broncs (5C) in girls play at 3:30 p.m. followed by varsity boys at 5 p.m.
Garfield County (Jordan) Mustangs (4C) face the North Country Mavericks (3C) of the Saco, Whitewater and Hinsdale communities in girls action at 6:30 p.m. and boys at 8 p.m.
Over in the Miles Community College gymnasium, named the Centra:
• Savage Warriors (2C) go into hardwood battle with the Powder River County (Broadus) Hawks (4C), with the boys tipping off at 3:30 p.m. and girls 5 p.m.
• Scobey Spartans (3C) look to derail the Harlowton Engineers (5C), with the boys scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m. and girls 8 p.m.
The Saturday, December 2, schedule in the Centra at Miles Community College looks like this:
• Circle girls vs. Plentywood, 12 p.m.;
• Circle boys vs. Plentywood, 1:30 p.m.
• Melstone girls vs. North Country, 3 p.m.
• Melstone boys vs. North Country, 4:30 p.m.
