Scobey Boys Tip-Off Season With Wins Over HarlowtonAnd Jordan
Not since C.J. Nelson exploded for 42 points in a 99-76 victory over the visiting Wolf Point Wolves on Saturday, February 10, 2018, nobody has come close to that figure (the school record of 45 points is currently shared by Cary Veis from 1972 and Curtis Cromwell from 1994 with an honorable mention to Dwain “Baldy” Sell who dropped in 43 in 1962).
Current Scobey sophomore John Carney in all likelihood wasn’t even thinking about breaking the school record Saturday night during the Coach Connors Classic event in Miles City when facing the Garfield County (Jordan) Mustangs, he was simply trying to help his team win a game.
In the end, 8:40 p.m. to be precise, he had deposited nine 3-point field goals and one 2-pointer through the two nets for 29 points to lead all scorers.
Just a few minutes in he hit his sole 2-point field goal for a 4-all tie and quickly followed with his initial trey. In the second quarter he buried four more 3-pointers and added three more in the third frame. Midway through the fourth quarter he dropped in his ninth and final 3-ball - a long one! - giving his team a 61-29 advantage in an eventual 71-29 final.
