The bad news is the Scobey boys' basketball team and its fans have to endure a second loss of the season, after a 17-0 start, to the Lustre Christian Lions, which was a 55-39 decision in Saturday's District 3C Tournament championship game.

The good news is the Spartans live to play another day as the East C Divisional Tournament in Glasgow goes February 28 through March 2 and they are in it.

The Wednesday, February 28, first-round pairings of divisionals at Glasgow High School look like this: • 4th-place District 3C North Country Mavericks (9-13, 1061-1145, 48.252.0) versus 1st-place 2C Plentywood Wildcats (201, 1357-790, 64.6-37.6), 3 p.m.

• 3rd-place 2C Froid-Lake Redhawks (11-10, 1061-1036, 50.5-49.3) versus 2nd-place 3C Scobey (18-2, 1298-676, 64.933.8), 4:30 p.m.

• 3rd-place 3C Circle Wildcats (14-8, 1250-1106, 56.8-50.2) versus 2nd-place 2C Culbertson Cowboys (813, 884-914, 42.0-43.5), 6 p.m.

• 4th-place 2C Savage Warriors (16-4, 999-749, 49.9-37.4) versus 1st-place 3C Lustre Christian Lions (20-1, 1429-670, 68.031.9), 7:30 p.m.

The Spartans, after receiving a first-round bye on Wednesday the 14th, faced the North Country Mavericks late Thursday afternoon in a 4:49 p.m. tip-off.

Kade Strommen gave North Country its one and only advantage by netting a field goal for a 2-0 score.

Thereafter the Spartans ran away with it for a 71-32 victory, thrusting them into Saturday night's championship game.<...
