No More In 2023-24!

While they have been very consistent at the East C Divisional Tournament over the past four seasons, placing third all four times, the Scobey girls’ varsity basketball team will be the first to tell anybody willing to listen, it is simply not good enough.

They want a date at State!

Knowing this program has come this close four seasons in a row of qualifying for the State C Tournament, after earning berths in 2019 and 2020, perhaps 2025 could be the year as the Spartans lose just one senior, guard Mia Handran, from this past season’s team.

After defeating a good Bainville squad 49-32 in Saturday night’s consolation contest, Scobey needed the Plentywood Wildcats to upset the defending state champion and undefeated North Country Mavericks in the title game to keep their season alive, hoping to challenge for the second-place slot Monday night.

Needless to say the Saco- Whitewater-Hinsdale juggernaut more than doubled up the Wildcats in the championship game at 5523, extending its winning streak to 51 games.

And just like that, it was once again next-season time for the Scobey girls.

In fact, it was Friday afternoon's semifinal matchup with those same Plentywood Wildcats being the game the Spartans really needed to come out on top. Earning a W in that one would in all likelihood would have had them making travel plans to Great Falls for this week’s State C, because even if they had lost to North Country in the finals and the Wildcats won the consolation, Scobey would have not been able to be challenged.

In a 3:10 p.m. tip-off Plentywood raced to a 13-4 lead over the Spartans by the end of the intitial quarter.

Kaytie Aanstad, Scobey’s 6-foot junior, sank two field goals to close within 13-8.
