BASKETBALL — A mighty fine winning percentage: A coaching disciple of Steve Keller, who won three consecutive Class C girls’ basketball state titles with the Opheim Vikings (1982-84), Colby Blaine has fashioned a fabulous overall coaching record of his own with the College of Idaho ‘Yotes. They are based in Caldwell, located about 15 miles west of Boise. In his initial season (2018-19) as head coach of the ‘Yotes, he posted a 31-6 overall record. Following was a 31-3 mark in 2019-20 and 8-9 in 2020-21, when world-wide health concerns ruled the globe. In 2021-22 the ‘Yotes went 32-5 and qualified for the Elite 8 at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men’s Basketball National Championship Tournament in Kansas City before losing.
