Scobey Girls Place Fourth, Boys 6th In Glendive Gathering

Ty Takes SHS Pole Vault Record 6 Inches Higher

With six more-populous Class A teams competing the Scobey track and field varsity teams fared very well at the 64th Annual Shriner’s Invitational Meet in Glendive.

Held Friday, April 26, on Perham Field at the Oakland Athletic Complex, the Lady Spartans placed fourth with 48 points while the Class A Hardin Bulldogs won it with 93. The Scobey boys finished in sixth with 36 points while host Dawson County (Glendive) was the victor with 96 points.

The individual winner for the Spartans was Mady Willis in the 300-meter hurdles (49.73). For the guys, achieving first-place status were Opheim High School’s James Landles in the 110-meter hurdles (16.95) and Ty Leischner in the high jump (6-4) and pole vault (14-6). Leischner bumped up his Scobey High School pole vault record of 14-0 established in 2023 by six inches. Lustre Christian’s Johnslee Pierre placed first in the 300 hurdles in 42.24.

Some of the Spartans qualified for the 42nd annual Norm Girard Top 10 Meet held at Scottie Field Monday, April 29, in Glasgow (normally this is a Tuesday afternoon meet but a forecast of very strong winds prompted the move to Monday; results in next week’s Leader). ).

Up next is the Gene Nelson Memorial Meet at Lowry Field in Wolf Point Friday, May 3, with the first field event starting at 12 p.m. The initial track event begins at 1 p.m. Eighteen teams are registered to compete: Bainville, Brockton, Circle, Dodson, Frazer, Froid-Medicine Lake, Garfield County (Jordan), Glasgow, Harlem, Hinsdale, Lustre Christian, Malta, Nashua, Poplar, Saco, Scobey, Trenton, N.D. and Wolf Point.
