CROSS COUNTRY — It ‘ran’ its way into second place: Remember the feature story the Daniels

County Leader published in the August 10, 2023 issue about the cross country courses scattered around the great state of Montana? When the deadline for the Montana Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest was nearing earlier this year the thought was this: cross country doesn’t seem to garner the attention some of the other sports do so this feature story is a somewhat different kind of story so send it in and see what happens. What happened is it placed second under the category of “Editorial: Best Sports Feature Story.” The winner was Berl Tiskus of the Lake County Leader in Polson, the victorious article titled “Sky’s The Limit.” The Daniels County Leader’s entry, the first sports-related entry in the past 1015 years (or longer), was titled “It Is Cross Country Sea...
