Hinsdale, Montana, home of the Hinsdale Raiders school team, is named for Reverend Hinsdale, a friend of James J. Hill, the builder of the Great Northern Railroad, which is today’s Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, or BNSF for short. Hinsdale once had two newspapers. The Montana Homestead ran from 1904-12 while the Hinsdale Tribune ran from 1912-1971, which merged with the Saco Independent to form the Independent Tribune in the 1970s.
