Moran Sets Record, Hardy Scores High, Stingrays Take 3rd
Siri Moran set a pool record, Weston Hardy was a High-Point winner and the Scobey Stingrays placed third as a team at last weekend’s Montana Federation of Swimmers East Division Meet in Glendive.
Now the entire 2024 season comes down to one last gathering for the Stingrays and their Head Coach Tate Carney, as the State Meet occurs this Saturday and Sunday (July 27-28) in Sidney.
It will be Coach Carney’s final meet with the Stingrays as he moves on to new challenges and opportunties following 11 summer seasons as head coach of the Scobey kids.
Twelve-year old Moran’s record-breaking pool performance in Glendive occurred in the 50-meter butterfly event in the girls' age 11-12 division, where she surpassed the previous mark with a time of 35.10 seconds.
Eight-year-old Hardy’s High-Point Award in the boys’ age 8 and under division had him tallying 40 out of a possible 42 points. He placed first in the 25-meter breaststroke (28.96) and 25-meter backstroke (23.67) and second in the 50-meter freestyle.
Also competing in the meet for the Stingrays who are not listed in the results due to not advancing out of the individual preliminary races into the finals include: Maggie Bekker, Jaxcee Bilbrey, Kendall Crandell, Emma Dumitru, Charlee Fischer, Elliet Frederick, Mickey Halverson, Haddie Hansen, Rowan Southland, Alea Stentoft and Harvey Urdahl.
A couple of fast facts from the meet: of the 10 boys making it to the finals in 8 and under division in the 25-meter butterfly race, seven of them were from Scobey; only eight 6-year olds earned a berth in this weekend’s state meet from the East Division and five of them are from Scobey.
