SWIMMING — He took the program to a whole different level: Former Scobey Stingrays head coach Tate Carney has headed back to Wyoming where he is an elementary school teacher in Greybull, coaching junior high football on the side (Greybull is nearly straight south of Billings, Montana in the northern sector of Wyoming). The 2024 season was his final of 11 summers of teaching competitive swimming to the local youth. One will notice in Carney’s first summer on the job in 2014 the Stingrays placed ninth at the Montana Federation of Swimmers (MFS) East Divisional Meet and fifth in Class B at the State Meet. Three summers later, after climbing up into Class A in 2015 and 2016 as many more kids desired to be part of the program, the Stingrays had leapfrogged right into the top-tier Class AA and have been parked there ever since! The Leader researched and then crunched the numbers to give an overview of the great job Carney achieved while at the helm of the Stingrays:
