BASKETBALL — Rules are NOT meant to be broken! (Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, she or he does not win the prize unless she or he competes according to the rules): Mark Chabot (SHS ‘73), who resides just across the international border in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, was called into action in late spring of 2024 by the Athletes In Action organization, meaning he would be flying to the African nation of Zambia. The purpose was to conduct another basketball referee clinic, just like the one held in 2023, for the Zambian Basketball Federation (ZBF). This time around, however, Chabot and the group he was with were asked to host referee training clinics in three different cities (Choma, Kitwe, Lusaka), not just one. The first Zambian training event in 2001 was a sports Ministry Training Symposium to establish an Athletes In Action (AIA) Zambia national sports ministry.
