Scobey Girls Edge Brockton By Two Points To Win Own Invite
On Friday, September 13, Pioneer Town was closed but filled with people while the Scobey Golf Course was open yet no one was golfing.
What was going on? Easy, it was the date on the calendar when the Scobey School hosted the annual Scobey Invitational Cross Country Meet, which takes full advantage of both facilities, much to the delight of all the runners, their coaches and fans who attend.
Speaking of all the runners, they came from all over eastern Montana (even some from North Dakota) to compete on a course featuring a short gravel road, soft green grass, a few dirt paths and even a very short stretch of pavement.
High school teams competing were the Scobey Spartans, Brockton Warriors, Circle Wildcats, Dodson Coyotes, Fairview Warriors, Frazer Bearcubs, MonDak Thunder (Westby, Mont., Grenora, N.D.), Plentywood Wildcats, Richey-Lambert Fusion, Terry Terriers and Trinity Christian Crusaders (Williston, N.D.).
Middle school teams competing were Barbara Gilligan (Brockton), Circle-Redwater, Culbertson, Dodson, Fairview, Frazer, Frontier (Wolf Point), MonDak, Nashua, Plentywood, Poplar, Richey-Lambert, Scobey and Trinity Christian.
The weather during the get-together wasn't exactly ideal but was more than tolerable.
