Lady Spartans Hope To Secure Back-To-Back State Trophies
Last season at the Montana High School Association’s 60th annual State Cross Country Meet in the northern area of Kalispell, the Scobey girls found themselves tied with the Roberts Rockets when the race was over.
Twenty-seven to 27! Tie-breakers at the State Meet in Class C are determined by the following method: the first three fin ishers on each team make up the final score but if a tie occurs whichever of the tied team's fourth runner fin ished better decides the final standings.
Meaning the Rockets soared to win it all.
They will again be on the launch pad to try and make it two in a row when the 61st annual All-Class State Meet is held Saturday, October 26, on the University of Montana Golf Course, featuring that big, bad, nasty hill on the north side of Mount Sentinel.
Their chance of winning it all again this weekend, in all likelihood without worrying about any tie, is very strong.
The top three for the Rockets are all seniors, starting with TJ Chirrick, who competed in eight races this season. Her average fin ish in those runs was 17th place in an average field of 132 competitors.
