Prep Playoff Preview - Fairview Recalls Last Time It Played Scobey On Starr Field In Week Seven!
Prep Playoff Preview
The day was Friday, October 11, 2024 and the Scobey Spartans headed down to Starr Field in Fairview for their every-other-year visit to take on the Warriors.
Fairview (11-0, 563-157, 51.1-14.2) scored first and then again for a 14-0 lead just 10:16 in. Scobey (8-3, 382165, 34.7-15.0) cracked the scoreboard with a safety but the Warriors tallied again (21-2) before Scobey closed within 21-8 on a 10-play drive. Then it was 28-8 with 3:49 left in the third, 28-14 at the 13-second mark and 28-20 with 1:13 showing on the fourth-quarter clock. Then, in Cinderella terms, the clock struck midnight (9:04 p.m.) and the Warriors were 8-point winners.
Oh, but the body language of the Fairview squad— those on the field and those on the sideline—told the story.
It was not exactly the most comfortable team in the state at the time when Scobey freshman Liam Leininger picked off a pass and returned it 18 yards to Scobey’s own 38 with 2:48 left in regulation.
The Spartans ran out of time and lost by eight (Circle was closest to Fairview at 29-24 in week 6), but Scobey left an impression on the Warriors, who know they are in for a whale of a game Saturday, November 16, at 1 p.m. on the same Starr Field against a red-hot Scobey bunch (Radio: KCGM 95.7 FM).
