Oh no, Johnny B. Great! The last sentence in the Scobey boys’ basketball article on page 6 in the December 12, 2024 issue of the Daniels County Leader stated the upcoming home game on Friday the 13th versus Plentywood “should be a dandy.”

John Carney made it one.

Cutting to the chase, the junior guard was, as they say, “feeling it.”

And how! All he did was bury a dozen three-point field goals and, inside the arc, four from “closer” range for 44 points in an 83-61 victory over the Wildcats.

His scoring outburst came up one point shy of joining Cary Veis (SHS ‘73) and Curtis Cromwell (SHS ‘94), who hold the Scobey High School most-pointsin-a-game record at 45. Carney was hot right from the get-go giving the Spartans the first lead of the game at 2-0. Later on in the opening stanza he drilled a top-of-the-key three, drove inside for a deuce, then hit two more treys helping his team to a 19-13 lead through eight minutes of action.
