Jason Wolfe, welcome to the club.
The big one when it comes to Big Sky Country boys’ basketball.
That would be the Montana High School Association’s (MHSA) Top 10 for the most coaching victories in the boys’ b-ball category.
Although he has quite a long way to go to reach the pinnacle of 717 wins by the retired Dean Gamradt, who coached the boys at Dutton-Brady and Fairfield, Wolfe is now unofficially in the number nine spot for boys’ all-time wins. When the Daniels County Leader mails all the results of every final score from every game into the MHSA at the end of this season then it is official!
For now, anyway. Following the recent 5741 victory over the Circle Wildcats, Wolfe is currently tied with coach Eric Hayes of Missoula Hellgate at 361 total victories, which dates all the way back to his firstever MSHA season as head coach of the Scobey High School boys’ basketball program.

His first victory occurred in the Lustre Christian gymnasium in game four of his rookie season, a 62-16 final.
Following the win over the Lions, Scobey won four more in a row over Dodson, Peerless-Flaxville, Nashua and Opheim. Then the boys in blue and gold dropped three straight, won one, lost one, won three in a row, lost one, won two in a row, then lost twice in a row at the District 3C Tournament in Glasgow, to Saco in the semifinals and Dodson in a loser-out matchup.
Not exactly a shining start of one’s first season as a head coach, is it?
But as time went on, following the 2006-07 season (9-12, 1003-1065, 47.750.7), thingsbegantrending upward for the better, and in some cases much better.
By the time Wolfe’s third regular season ended in 2007-08 (22-7, 1515-1214, 52.2-41.8), his Spartans were sporting a 14-4 record. It grew to 17-5 by the time the District 3C Tournament concluded in Malta, where Scobey won 41-35 over the Whitewater Penguins in the...
