Do Girls Got Great Groove Going Into Game With Mavs?

That was a very big onthe- road basketball victory by the Scobey varsity girls’ team Thursday night in Plentywood, even if it was in non-conference action.
Let’s just say it was a tremendous confidence booster for the Lady Spartans to depart with a 47-41 win over a very good Wildcat squad, especially with the District 3C Tournament just a couple weeks away in Wolf Point February 19-22.
Scobey found itself trailing 10-6 after the opening quarter but worked its way back with a strong second period, outscoring the host team 13-6 for a 19-16 halftime lead. The big play occurred when the game was knotted at 16-all and time winding down everso- closely to zero, which was when Camrie Holum dropped in a huge 3-point field goal just before the buzzer buzzed to take a 3-point lead into halftime.
It was still a 3-point Scobey lead when the third quarter came to a close as 8 points by Kaytie Aanstad, a 3-point field goal by Kennadi Cromwell, a 2-pointer by Holum and a pair of free throws by Kayla Carney kept the Spartans on top.
The fourth-quarter play of Scobey spoke volumes of their effort, especially in an opponent’s gym and against a quality program. The Spartans outscored the Wildcats 13-10 as Cromwell buried a couple of treys and one free throw, Avery Wolfe contributed a big 3-point field goal, Holum netted a deuce and Emery Rouse sank a free throw.
