Scobey Boys Still Undefeated As Four Games Left In Reg Season


It was close and all of a sudden it was not.
The Scobey varsity boys’ basketball team made the short 84-mile round trip to Plentywood Thursday, January 30, for part two of this season’s home-andhome series between the two teams.
It was very tight in the first half but not so much in the final 16 minutes of action as the Spartans protected their thus-far undefeated season, traveling home with a 56-36 win.
Scobey, still ranked second in the Montana Television Network’s Class C boys’ poll, trailing only defending state champion Box Elder Bears (13-0, 985-559, 75.7-43.0), jumped out to a 15-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. John Carney netted a deuce and a triple for 5 points, Bram Handran did the same thing, Cooper Axtman drilled a 3-pointer and Reese Tande added a 2-pointer in the opening 8 minutes.
The scoring momentum swung back in favor of the Wildcats in the second quarter as Landon Flickinger and Carson Solberg deposited 3-pointers and Ben Hagan, Aydan Kaul and Chance Klein dropped in a bucket each to outscore the Spartans 12-7 to close within 22-21 by halftime.
At this point it appeared the game was going to continue to be a close affair to the end but that was not the case.
