It Is Big-Game Time For Scobey As Lustre Christian Pays A Visit

The Scobey boys’ basketball team needs just two more victories to exit the regular season and enter the postseason with an unblemished overall record.
Sounds easy for the local lads but it is anything but since the Spartans have to face fellow District 3Cer Lustre Christian Lions Saturday, February 15, in Scobey, with the scheduled opening tip-off time at 5:30 p.m.
It was a nail-biter of a game when the two tangled in the Lions den gym Saturday, January 18, where the Spartans escaped with a 4037 victory.
Scobey created the two largest leads of the contest at 14-7 on Bram Handran’s layup following a very long pass from Brecken Maher just as the second quarter had begun. The other was 29-22 late in third period as Cooper Axtman nailed a 3-point field goal as the 35-second shot clock was close to reaching zero. The two were also tied twice at 18 and 20 very late in the second stanza. Early in the fourth frame the Lions closed within 29-27 and 31-29, and with 39 seconds left in regulation 39-37 on Clay Reddig’s 3-point field goal from long range. Reese Tande’s free throw with 11 seconds left created the final 3-point margin. What does all this mean? Expect more of the same when they clash Saturday in what will undoubtedly be a very tight and entertaining game.
