Scobey 7th Graders ‘Grew Up In That Basketball Game’

They were working at it with all their might, and then in one game it all just came together.

They had turned the basketball corner and are now on their way to possible greatness.

It took a couple of double- digit losses to those Scotty dogs from Glasgow to get there but they had finally arrived.

The “they” being described are the 2025 Scobey School seventh-grade boys’ basketball team (8-4, 648255, 54.0-21.2). They were coached by Drew Baldry, who was in the starting lineup when the varsity Spartans defeated Power 58-47, Joliet 49-37 in the semifinals and Arlee 55-47 in the championship at the State C Tournament in 2011. They found themselves in a championship themselves recently during the Northeast Middle School District 7th Grade Boys’ Basketball Tournament in Malta Saturday, February 10.

The season tipped off Saturday, January 4, at the Poplar Jamboree, where they defeated Malta 49-2 and Poplar 75-8.

The next week at the Glasgow jam session the Scobey boys fell 57-34 to the host Scotties but bounced back with a 74-11 win over Wolf Point.

Week three had the Spartans scheduled to play in the Harlem Jamboree but most of the Scobey players were ill and didn’t make the trip, thus no final scores.

In weekend number four at the Wolf Point Jamboree they lost again to Glasgow 36-21 but later in the day defeated Harlem 58-11.

The following Saturday at the Scobey Jamboree the Spartans shutout Malta 74-0 and nearly did the same to Harlem in a 75-10 final.
