27 Hour Power Failure

Sub-Zero Weather–
Monday morning about 10 minutes after 2 a.m. the power came on and off, at 3 a.m. all electric power into Scobey and Flaxville cut out completely, out in the night a blizzard was in the making.
Business firms and homes with heating systems powered by electricity awoke to sub-zero weather and slight hopes for electric power resumed for many hours.
Downtown business firms with heat dependent on electric power waited for the worst. The bank closed, its vaults turning into refrigerators, post office clerks handled mail with numb fingers and gave up. Upstairs in the apartments water pipes burst.
