If one is wanting to watch a Montana High School Association state championship football game live and in person this weekend you (and your entourage if it comes to that) are headed to one of these locales (or two if being in Helena Friday night and at one of the other four on Saturday afternoon).
Option two is pay the very minimal streaming fee and watch any of them on the National Federation of High School website from the luxury of your own home (log onto nfhsnetwork.com to do so).
As just noted championship weekend kicks off in Montana’s capital city when the Helena Capital Bruins host the Bozeman Hawks at Vigilante Stadium Friday night at 7 p.m. These two met in the season-opener with Helena Capital winning 28-21. It’s only a 932-mile round from Scobey.
The Class A chipper kicks off Saturday at 1 p.m. at Golden Eagle Stadium in the Lewistown, where the Billings Central Rams will be the visitors on the scoreboard. These two teams clashed in week eight of the regular season with the Golden Eagles winning 17-7. That trip is 592 miles round trip from the Daniels County seat.
The Class B state title tilt just might be the most interesting of the championship round. The Loyola Sacred Heart Rams entered the playoffs with a 4-5 overall record. In order played the Rams won 49-14 over Conrad, lost 3213 to Manhattan and 44-7 to Huntley Project before leveling its record with a 41-0 shutout over Red Lodge. Week five had Loyola winning 35-12 against Anaconda followed by back-to-back losses to Eureka 33-7 and Bigfork 47-14.
