Fast Start But Slow Finish For Gridders

The Scobey Spartans showed extremely early signs they were going to give the Circle Wildcats a very good game last week in Roundtown.

After all, they took the opening kickoff and marched down the field 67 yards in 15 plays to take a 6-0 lead with 4:51 left in the first quarter.

Then reality showed up.

Circle countered on its first offensive possession with a 25-yard kickoff return and rushes of 27, 16 and 3 yards for a 6-all score.

The Wildcats forced a three-and-out on Scobey’s second offensive possession and followed with a 6-play drive making it 14-6. They tallied on their third possession, returned a Scobey fumble 74 yards for six more points, then scored on their fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh possessions for a 57-6 victory, securing second place in the East C Division of 8-man football—at least for this week.

In other words, Circle scored on all of its seven offensive possessions and the fumble return for six was a defensive bonus.

The victory put the Wildcats in the upcoming playoffs while the Spartans’ season will end the night of Friday, October 13, when hosting the Wibaux Longhorns at 7 p.m. (Radio: KCGM 95.7 FM).
