Scobey Girls And Lustre Boys Win At Wolf Point
The Scobey girls and Lustre Christian boys track and field teams were the cream rising to the top during last week’s Northeast Invitational Meet at Lowry Field in Wolf Point.
Held Saturday, April 13, when the day-time high temperature rose into the high 60s/low 70s, the Scobey gals more than doubled the second-place Richey-Lambert Fusion by a 152-to-61 count. The Plentywood Wildcats claimed third with 52 points, one better than the Saco Panthers.
On the boys side, the Lustre Christian Lions cruised to a 33-point win over host Scobey by a 106to-73 count. Right behind the Spartans in third was the New Town Eagles of northwestern North Dakota with 72 points.
Securing first-place finishes for the Lady Spartans in individual events were: senior Mia Handran (400, 800); juniors Kaytie Aanstad (shot put), Mya Green (1600, 3200) and Mady Willis (300 hurdles).
The Scobey girls swept both relay races, winning the 4x100 (Willis, Handran, Kinsey Anderson, Olivia Leininger) and 4x400 (Anderson, Camrie Holum, Kennadi Cromwell, Green).
Opheim High School senior James Landles was Scobey’s sole winner on the boys’ side, taking the 110and 300-meter hurdles.
The Lustre Christian boys produced their fair share of individual victories, starting with senior Terran Joseph in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Sophomore Johnslee Pierre won the long jump and triple jump. The Lions also captured first the 4x100 relay in 45.96, featuring Ifeanyi Aniobi, Byron Ewing, Brian Guedes and Joseph.
The Scobey boys compiled 9 personal records (PRs) and 9 seasonal records (SRs) in the meet while the Lustre Christian boys had 17 PRs and 6 SRs.
For the girls, Scobey had 16 PRs and 17 SRs while the Lady Lions had 4 PRs and 5 SRs.
Next up for the Spartans is the Sidney Invitational, which features a big crowd of competition, including Heart River, Killdeer, Richardton-Tayor, Trinity Christian of Williston and Williston out of neighboring North Dakota.
