Homestead Hospitality And One-Eyed Molly’s

 

Hotels and motels were non-existent in Northeastern Montana when the first settlers arrived. So, travelers and freighters slept under the stars and cooked over campfires. Homesteaders sometimes lived in tents until they could build more permanent shelters on their claims.

Many of the first settlers welcomed newcomers into their homes. They were often crowded, since most homestead shacks had only one or two rooms, and the family members and guests had to sleep on the floor or in the barn.
