Scobey Sports Teams Start Practice On Friday, Aug. 16th
THE MIDNIGHT RUN OF ASHER AND TRISTAN — One can bet their bottom dollar the Scobey High School cross country program will be executing its first day of practice on Friday, August 16, 2024 when the clock strikes midnight and the flood lights at Plainsmen Field are on full display. Might as well do it when it is cool and dark instead of hot and sunny, right? Shown at their first practice of the 2023 season when watering the field was in progress are Asher Boze (left) and Tristan Lekvold. — Leader Photo, mike

So you want the scoop on the upcoming 2024-25 Scobey High School and junior high sports schedules?

Well, dear reader, you are in luck as the Leader has most all of them except for the spring sports of golf and track/field.

The first day of official practices begin when the clock strikes midnight on Friday, August 16, and one can bet a nickel the SHS cross country teams will be at Plainsmen Field with the four flood lights on ready to go at 12 a.m. for some cool-running weather. The female and male junior high and high school harriers have their first competition set for Friday, August 30, at the Wolf Point Invitational at the Airport Golf Course where the initial race starts at 10 a.m.

Six hours later, the boys’ football team begins its first practice the same morning on the west-side practice field at 6 a.m. and the second practice later the same day at 4:30 p.m. The Spartans’ first game is set for Friday, August 30, against the Powder River County Hawks in Broadus, where the kickoff to the season is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Hawks Field.

The next Friday is the home opener in Scobey against the Circle Wildcats, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.

The Scobey girls’ volleyball team will have its initial practice also on Friday, August 16, at 4 p.m. The first competition the Lady Spartans have scheduled is on Saturday, August 31, at the Culbertson Tournament.

Scobey’s initial home match is set for Thursday, September 5, when the Culbertson Cowgirls show up for a 3-match slate (JH/JV/V, 4 p.m.+15 minutes+20 minutes).

Here are the fall and winter schedules (as soon as we get the track and field/golf skeds we will publish them on these pages ASAP). Also, keep in mind times and dates are subject to change, which the Leader will convey to readers as soon as it can:
