Things seem to be looking good so far for the Scobey varsity football team following four weekends of game-day action.

Its overall record stands at 3-1, which currently means a 3-way tie for second place with the Culbertson Cowboys and Carter County (Ekalaka) Bulldogs.

The Spartans get to play both of those teams on its Plainsmen Field grass surface in the very near future: Culbertson on Friday October 4; Ekalaka on Friday, October 25. Both will have playoff implications.

That, however, is in the future.

The near future is another story, which means a 460mile round-trip to Forsyth, which, like all of Scobey’s regular-season games, is a conference contest.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. (Radio: KCGM 95.7 FM).

The 2024 gridiron season thus far for the Dogies has played out like this, in order: 54-16 loss to Culbertson; 62-8 loss to Fairview; 56-18 loss at Ekalaka; 24-6 win at Poplar.

By comparison, Scobey has defeated Broadus 48-8 away, lost a tight one to Circle 20-12 at home, doubled Plentywood 36-18 at home and, just last Saturday afternoon, defeated Wibaux 48-- 2.

Played on Veterans Memorial Field in Wibaux, the Spartans kicked off at the scheduled time of 1 p.m. after winning the opening coin flip and deferring.

Scobey’s defense forced a three-plays-and-punt situation and took possession at their own 35-yard line.

The Spartans handed the ball to Torsten Lamb three consecutive times, earning a first down on a 3rd-and-2 from the Wibaux 37-yard line. Then they began moving backwards as an illegal procedure call and holding call created a first-and-25. Following back-to-back incomplete passes, making it 3rd-and-25, Kolten Machart took a hand-off and roared 56 yards for a first-and-goal at the five-yard line.
