Apparently somebody wanted it more.

Somebody, in this case, were the North Country Mavericks of the Saco, Whitewater and Hinsdale communities and the Bainville Bulldogs, leaving the Scobey Spartans without the means of securing a potential berth in the State Class C Tournament in Bozeman And just like that, a run for the roses was over, halted by the two aforementioned teams at the East C Divisional Tournament in Sidney. The champion Circle Wildcats and runnersup Mavericks were on their way to the State Tournament, where the Roundtowners would emerge as the Class C champs.

It can be labeled as a missed opportunity for the Spartans, where just qualifying for the State C would have been good enough. It would have meant they would have, win or lose, secured at the very least two opportunities to compete in the expansive Brick Breeden Fieldhouse on the campus of Montana State University in Bozeman, where all four classifications (AA, A, B, C) play at the same time on four separate courts.

Now it’s back to square one, which means staying in shape through high school track/field and golf in the spring of 2025, softball, basketball and swim team in the summer and possibly some time in the weight room when one can get in there.

The opportunities will be there to become better for the 2025 season but the most significant question will be this: just how much do the Spartans really want to make it to state and what is each team member willing to do to get there, as an individual and as a team?
