Scobey Boys Back On Top Of District 3


The Scobey boys’ basketball program captured its 10th District 3C Tournament championship over a 15-season span Saturday night in Wolf Point.
Now it aims to earn its sixth East C Division title in a 9-season span when heading to Sidney a week from now.
The first-round pairings of the East C Divisional Tournament at Sidney High School Thursday, March 6, look like this:
• District 2C fourthplace MonDak (Westby-Grenora) Thunder (6-16, 966-1181, 43,9-53.6) versus District 3C first-place Scobey Spartans (20-0, 1382667, 69.1-33.5) at 12 p.m.
• District 2C secondplace Savage Warriors (165, 1086-817, 50.8-38.9) versus District 3C third-place North Country Mavericks (15-7, 1222-1018, 55.546.2) at 1:30 p.m.
• District 3C fourthplace Circle Wildcats (17-5, 1252-923, 56.9-41.9) versus District 2C Plentywood Wildcats (19-2, 1413-652, 67.2-31.0) at 6 p.m.
• District 2C third-place Culbertson Cowboys (14-8, 1158-1023, 52.6-46.5) versus District 3C Lustre Christian Lions (17-4, 1373-701, 65.3-33.3) at 7:30 p.m.
The Spartans reached this juncture by first defeating the North Country Mavericks on Thursday, February 20, in the Wolves’ Den Gym during a semifinal game after receiving a firstround bye.
Scobey took the first lead at 2-zip when Brecken Maher grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back up for a 2-0 lead on the team’s first offensive possession of the contest.
