We’re Working to Earn Your Loyalty and Friendship . . . Be Here For Us & We’ll Continue To Be Here For You! HOMETOWN HARDWARE “I’ve always wanted to own the hardware store,” said Gayle (nee: Holum) Fishell, a 1998 graduate of Scobey High School. That dream came true on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 when she and her husband Scott Fishell (FHS, 1997) purchased Hometown Hardware and the real estate it sits on from Eric and Kori Linder, who owned the Scobey Main Street business since January 1, 2014. Gayle is no stranger to the business as she worked at the hardware store part-time in the past and as a fill-in from time-to-time since 2009. The Fishells also own and operate Fishell Construction and the Smoke Creek Inn on Scobey’s south end along Highway 13. The history of the building, located on the northeast corner of Highway 13 and Highway 5 in downtown Scobey, was built in 1974 as an investment property by John Brenden. The first occupants in THE HOMETOWN HARDWARE building located at the northeast corner of Highway 13 and Highway 5 is shown on the morning of Monday, February 24, 2025. Below, from left, are new owners Scott and Gayle Fishell, JoAnn Lekvold and Jeanne Anderson. At bottom are Joy Thompson (left) and Robbi Baldry. Not pictured is Isabelle Dressel. November of that year were Alan and Teri Willard, who owned and operated the Coast-to-Coast hardware franchise. The Willards sold it to Bob and Carol Wilson in 1982, who changed the franchise to the True Value Hardware line in 2000. They also purchased the real estate. In 2010 their son, DuWayne Wilson, and his wife, Carrie, purchased the store and real estate. As noted Eric and Kori Linder owned and operated the business from January 1, 2014 and sold it to the Fishell’s on January 1, 2025. Instead of just rushing in and purchasing what one needs and then quickly scoot out one of the two doors (Main Street and Highway 13), has one ever really just hung around and taken the time to realize the plethora of products available in this long-time Scobey business? Try it sometime as you’ll be amazed. Oh, sure, it’s not the size of Costco, Menards or WalMart, it’s even better as friendly, neighborly and helpful customer service is always evident inside Hometown Hardware. The business is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the telephone number being 487-2628. In addition to new owners Scott and Gayle, employees include Jeanne Anderson, Robbi Baldry, Isabelle Dressel, JoAnn Lekvold and Joy Thompson. With spring 2025 just three weeks away it won’t be too long before one can begin sprucing up the yard and getting the garden plot ready for seeding. Watch for True Value's flyer as bargains of the month items covering those subjects will be listed. Now, about the plethora of products available at Hometown Hardware, truly a huge asset to the Daniels County community. Take a deep breath, think from A to Z, get set, go: adapters, appliances, axes, bath scales, batteries, BBQ grills and equipment, accessories and sauces, bird feeders and bird feed, brooms, brushes, bolts and the nuts that go with them, buckets, bug spray, cables and cords, candy, canning jars, cat supplies, cards (anniversary, get well, wedding, etc.), car care kits, carpet metals, caulking, chains, charcoal grills, cleaning supplies, clocks, coffee makers, cooking pans, cooking utinsels, coolers, dog supplies, door knobs, duct tape, electrical supplies, extension cords, fans, faucets, fire extinguishers, fixtures, flags (including blue Scobey Spartans), flashlights, fuses, garden hoses, gar dening supplies, gloves, glues (including Gorilla), griddles, Halloween supplies, hammers, heaters, hitches, humidifiers, irons, ironing boards, jig saws, jumper cables, keys (and the machine to make more of them), knives, ladders, lawn seed, light bulbs, Lip Balm, lubricants, milk crates, mops, mosquito repellent, motor oils, nails, outdoor lamps and lights, padlocks, paints and painting supplies (they can mix it right there), pans, paper towels, pipe insulation, pizza ovens, planters, plant food, plaster, plumbing products, pots, potting mix, Quartz infrared cabinet heaters, Quick Kill Mouse traps, rakes, ropes, safety vests, saw blades, seeds for gardening, seed-starting jiffy pots, screws, sealants, shelving, shovels, shower curtains, shower heads, signs, smoke alarms, spackling, sporting goods, staples, stocking caps, storage totes, soaps, sump pumps, tacks, tapes (assorted), tarps, Teak Oil, toaster ovens, tools, tools and more tools, tool boxes, tow straps, toys, underbed storage, universal remote, vacuums, water softener salt, weed eaters, windowsill greenhouse, Xylol, yard-care items and zip ties.
