MT 248 Timber Bridge Replacement Underway, East of Richland The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Sletten Construction will soon begin to replace the West Fork Poplar River Bridge on Montana Highway 248 (MT 248), 2 miles east of Richland. This is the final bridge scheduled for replacement through the Timber Bridges-Glasgow Area project. Over the past two years, 15 timber bridges have been replaced in northeastern Montana through the project. Crews will begin constructing a two-lane detour directly next to the current structure. Once complete, traffic will be moved onto the detour, and demolition of the current structure will begin. The two-lane detour will have a width restriction of 22 feet. Vehicles exceeding this width need to take an alternate route. Crews will also return this summer to seal and cover (chip seal) and install the final pavement markings at all the bridge replacement sites located on MT 248, US Highway 2 (US 2), Montana Highway 24 (MT 24), and Montana Highway 251 (MT 251). Minimal traffic disruption is expected. Traffic control will be on-site, speed limits reduced, and shoulder closures in place throughout the construction zones. Brief, single-lane road closures will be periodically required. The Timber Bridges-Glasgow Area project is expected to be completed in 2025.
